Impact highlights from partner schools

Across the participating schools in The Musical Connection program, implementation of attention for more inclusive education led to meaningful cultural and structural change.

One vocational education institution fully integrated a program across multiple departments and complemented it with a new, institution-wide anti-discrimination policy explicitly protecting LGBTQ+ students and staff. As a result, reports of bullying declined significantly, more LGBTQ+ students reported feeling safe at school, and over a hundred teachers received specialized training in inclusive practice.

At another school, inclusion became part of the core arts program, using theater as a creative lens to explore topics of identity, empathy, and inclusion. The school also introduced gender-neutral facilities and an inclusive name and pronoun policy. These efforts received strong support from the school community, with high levels of parent satisfaction and increased enrollment from LGBTQ+ students.

A third participating college, developed a comprehensive staff training model, including the training modules that were created in the project, that has since been shared with other institutions. Over several years of continuous implementation, the program contributed to a more open and collaborative school culture, receiving recognition as a regional leader in inclusive education. The success was attributed to the school's emphasis on early engagement of all stakeholders, teachers, students, and parents, ensuring broad commitment and smooth integration from the start.
